A group of focused, committed and dedicated Muslims got together and realized the need for a masjid in the Southwest Edmonton for the convenience of Muslims residing in this and surrounding sub-divisions. With this in mind a committee (Shoora Council) was formed in the month of October 2006.
An Organization was named to be known as Southwest Muslim Community Centre (SMCC) based on belief in Allah and His Messenger and following of Quran and His Sunnah.
The intention of this move is to serve and facilitate Brothers and Sisters of this community to practice the religion of Islam and social fulfillments without having to travel far distances, especially in the inclement conditions.
Alhamdu Lillah, within a short period of time we were able to rent a place conveniently located as our Centre. Since then we have gradually increased our activities to build a strong community. As a result, and due to this committee?s perseverance in their efforts, our community expanded to the extent that we had to get serious about finding our own place. Due to the congestion of our subdivision and the escalating demand of the land in this area it took more than two years to find a place only to rent. The centre is also known as Masjid Annoor for the purpose of five times daily Prayers, Friday congregation and Taraveeh Prayers in Ramadan. Majid started its prayer offers in August of 2009.
“And your Lord says: Call on Me; I will answer your (prayer): but those who are too arrogant to serve Me
shall soon enter hell-in humiliation.” (Ghafir, 40:60)
This verse uses the words dua and ibadah interchangeably, thereby affirming that dua (supplication) is
an act of worship.
